My Story and How It Informs Your Story
My Story and How It Informs Your Story
How did I come to be a freelance writer in the energy industry? Well, I grew up in Texas, for one thing!
Sometimes I tell people my life’s function is to talk to inventive engineers and translate what they say into regular English. I get to do that because I love to know how things work—but I was a Liberal Arts major, so I don’t work with spreadsheets. I work with words that empower understanding!
I grew up with a fascination for media and for those who excelled at communicating. It’s why I’ve spent my whole life there in one form or another. Starting in radio, for more than five years I got up before the crack of dawn to meet listeners over the airwaves, playing music and delivering the news
Then I spent time with a market research company that was tracking the effects of various kinds of advertising, including TV ads and in-store promotions in grocery and drugstore markets.
From there I returned to media, where my wife and I wrote and managed an advertorial page on a contract basis for the Midland Reporter-Telegram. There I learned about each client, the vast majority of them locally-owned, then crafted a message for the community, on how their services could help. I saw myself helping not only the business, but the community as well—along with the newspaper and, of course, myself. Much more than a win-win, it was win-win-win-win!
Because I was in the Permian Basin, the epicenter for energy, not just in the U. S. but for the entire globe, I became fascinated with engaging and writing for and about that industry and how it impacts civilization.
From there the energy landscape has broadened to wind, solar, geothermal, hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and more—and I’ve stayed on top of the transition as well. My blogging clients are at the forefront of new energy technologies, with exciting success stories—not just their own, but for their clients as well.
Let’s talk about how you and I can draw people to your company’s story—and its service.
